'Introduction to the Science of Reading' is a comprehensive course designed to equip educators with foundational knowledge and evidence-based practices essential for effective reading instruction. Grounded in the Science of Reading (SoR), this comprehensive course dives into every facet of reading development, encompassing oral language, phonology, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Through a blend of theoretical exploration and practical application, participants will navigate the intricate landscape of reading acquisition, examining the latest research findings and evidence to inform their instructional practices. By the conclusion of this course, educators will emerge with newfound confidence and adeptness in crafting dynamic and tailored literacy experiences that cater to the diverse needs of their students. They will be equipped not only with a deep understanding of the science behind reading but also with a versatile toolkit of strategies to effectively nurture the literacy skills of every learner they encounter. In this course, participants will learn about (1) what the Science of Reading (SoR) is and what it is not, (2) the process of learning to read and why it is not natural, (3) the foundational components of reading according to the SoR, and (4) effective instructional practices backed by the SoR.
